I just like the way this author writes, her characters and her story lines. There is always a little quirkiness that makes it more interesting to read. It's a great read for a snow day (in Michigan we have snow days), sick day or beach read!
This heroine is a work in motion. Both in self thinking and actions. You might find yourself agreeing with her. Having been called in to a case in a neighboring town, she takes a friend along with her. Before long we have a body, another mystery and a man fro home security working on the same case. I need the next book in this series to see if she ends up with her long time friend!

This is a wonderful series. I had read the author's other books and they were good, but she has created an unforgettable character in Sadie Cooper. Sadie's toughness and humor cover a vulnerablity that is hidden and only slips out on occassion. You find yourself caring about what happens to her and you only want it to be good things.
Terrific, laugh out loud dialogue will hook you right from the beginning.
I adore the Sadie cooper Mysteries, by Vanessa Gray Bartal. Love the way she makes the characters seem real, with a fast moving story line. There are a few twist that takes you by surprise. A bit of romance thrown, and very well written. (I cannot say that about some books I have read). More is left to the imagination, To me that is a far more "sexy" than having it spelled out in words.
Anxiously awaiting the next in this series.
I love all of Vanessa's cozies but Sadie Cooper is one wacky and lovable character. She and Luke definitely belong together and I agree with the other readers that "Vaseline" need to go away. But I also enjoy Hal and the developing relationship between Sadie and Hal can prove interesting. I enjoyed the plot of this one also. How can finding a Pumpkin Assassin lead to so much mayhem? Leave it to Sadie to do it. I can't wait to read the next installment....Write faster Vanessa!
I have now read all three in this series and have liked them all very much - mystery and light romance, an easy read. I will continue to follow the adventures of Sadie (she is a fun and loveable character), but with the caveat that the author move forward with the relationship between Sadie and Luke to some extent. Also, I would suggest a update in the covers of the books-I had passed them up several times while searching for something to read because the cover art did not catch my eye.
First, Vasilissa is a Russian name, meaning the beautiful one. Maybe just a spell check error, but Vaslilssa hit me on every page. A quibble, but the typo was on every page, and became very annoying.
Also, and more importantly, Sophie is just too perfect. She is some martial arts expert-just not realistic. The relationship between Sophie, Luke and Hal is a cheap effort at dramatic tension. Just too much.
I think it's difficult to write a large number of books and stay fresh, inventive and realistic. Just too many jarring details to give it five stars but it still is enjoyable escape literature.
